The Perfectionism Trap: Why I'm Not Trying to Be Perfect on My 80-Day Countdown to 50

I spent yesterday doing what I usually do on a Sunday. I worked on content for my business, filmed a few videos, did some writing, and then shifted into my personal prep for the week ahead. The meals are prepped, my workouts are scheduled in the calendar, and the week is mapped out.
On the surface, it looks like a perfect plan. Organized. In control.
But as I was going through the motions, I couldn't shake a feeling that I know is familiar to so many of the women I coach.
It’s the pressure to make every single day perfect.
And I believe it’s the single biggest reason so many of us fail to reach our goals.
The All-or-Nothing Cycle That Keeps You Stuck
For years, especially in my 40s, I was trapped in an all-or-nothing cycle. It’s a cycle I see my clients in when they first come to me. It looks like this:
1. You start a new plan, full of motivation.
2. You have a few “perfect” days. You’re hitting your macros, drinking your water, getting your workouts in.
3. Then, life happens. A stressful day at work, a sick kid, a social event. You have one “imperfect” day.
4. The fear sets in. You believe that one off-plan meal or one missed workout has undone all your progress.
5. You think, “I’ve already failed, so what’s the point?”
6. You quit. Only to start the whole cycle over again a week or a month later.
The problem is that we’ve spent our lives believing we have to be perfect to be worthy of results. And when we inevitably can’t be perfect, we decide we’re not cut out for it. That pressure, that impossible standard, is what keeps us stuck.
My 80-Day Countdown to 50: An Experiment in Imperfection
As I’m writing this, I am exactly 74 days away from my 50th birthday. I decided to document this journey publicly, calling it “80 Days to 50.”
And if I’m being honest, the old me would have treated this like a performance. The old me would have felt the immense pressure to show up perfectly for 80 straight days. To have the most inspiring workouts, the most pristine meals, the most incredible transformation.
But I’m not doing that. Because I know the truth.
What moved the needle for me, and what moves the needle for my clients, is learning that real, lasting progress happens in the imperfect days. It happens especially when you know *what* to do, but struggle to do it consistently because of this pressure for perfection.
Progress happens on the days you don’t feel like it but show up anyway. It happens on the days you aren’t perfect, but you don’t quit. It happens when you have the “off” meal and get right back on track with the next one, without shame or guilt.
This countdown isn’t about being perfect for 74 days. It’s about showing you that the real work is letting go of perfectionism — because that’s what was holding me back all along.
Your Invitation to the Journey
I’m sharing this because I know I’m not alone. I know there are thousands of women out there who feel this exact same pressure. Who are tired of starting over. Who just want to feel strong and capable in their bodies without having to be perfect.
So, I’m inviting you to follow along with my journey. Not as a spectator to a perfect performance, but as a partner in a real, messy, human process of rebuilding.
More than that, I want to know: What are you rebuilding in your own life right now?
Are you rebuilding your strength after an injury or surgery? Rebuilding your metabolism after years of dieting? Rebuilding your trust in yourself after feeling like you’ve failed so many times?
This is our space to talk about it.
Let's Do This Together
If this resonates with you, I want you to do two things:
1. Leave a comment below and tell me what you’re rebuilding. Let’s normalize the conversation around the messy middle.
2. Join my free Facebook community, JOIN HERE It’s a space where we have these conversations every single day, with support, guidance, and zero judgment.
This isn’t about a perfect 80 days.
It’s about what we learn in the process.
And I’m so thankful for the support as we get to do it together.
